LAWN PROGRAM DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES

1) Pre-emergent Crabgrass Control with Organic-based Fertilizer (First Application)
Crabgrass is a common annual grass weed that germinates in the spring when soil temperatures reach 65 degrees.  This weed can suffocate large sections of the lawn as it grows throughout summer.  Crabgrass is most commonly found in lawns that are mowed too low, growing in poor soil or lack proper turf density.  The organic portion of the fertilizer will feed the lawn slowly, add organic matter to the soil, and promote beneficial soil microorganisms.  It will also help the lawn recover from winter stress, promote root development, and enhance spring green-up.  The fertilizer will keep the lawn dense which helps minimize crabgrass invasion.  Mowing the lawn at a height of 3 inches also reduces the incidence of crabgrass.
Applied in late March through early May

2) Pre-emergent Crabgrass Control with Organic-based Fertilizer (Second Application)
This application will ensure control through the latter part of the summer months.  The fertilizer will slowly feed the lawn through the summer without causing excessive top growth.
Applied in late May through mid-June

3) Preventative Grub / Insect Control
This treatment is a very safe application of a growth regulator which causes the insect to speed up its development and effectively cause it to stop feeding.  This material is safe around children and pets.  It also does not affect earthworms or other beneficial organisms.  The treatment is an insurance policy against major lawn damage from the insects feeding.  It will remain effective for 1 year.

4) Fall Organic-based Fertilization
This is a granular application of premium fertilizer.  It will enable the lawn a quick recovery from the ravages of summer stress.  It provides the necessary nutrients to promote a thick, dense lawn.  This is the most important application of fertilizer and begins to help the lawn store energy for winter.  Fall fertilization for lawns in our area is paramount to a healthy stand of grass.

5) Broadleaf Weed Control
This treatment effectively controls most lawn weeds.  By applying this control measure in Fall, only one control is typically necessary.  Keeping the lawn thick and healthy, and mowing at a 3 inch height will help reduce broadleaf weed problems.  Weeds are storing nutrients in the fall, so a control measure applied now is highly effective.  The weeds translocate the control measure to their root system.  Some weeds such as violets, ground ivy, and speedwell can be difficult to control.  Repeat treatments are often necessary for these weeds.

6) Late Fall Winterizer Fertilization
This fertilizer application helps the lawn by promoting root growth and the storing of nutrients for spring vigor.  It will also enhance winter hardiness and help fight disease occurrence.
Applied mid to late November

Lime Application
Lime is considered the work horse of the soil. It adjusts the pH of your soil from acidic to neutral. Neutral pH is considered optimum for turf growth. It also helps to decrease thatch build-up by encouraging microbial activity. By applying lime on a regular basis, you are ensuring optimum utilization of fertilizers. We recommend applying lime every 3 years.

Lawn Core Aeration
Core aeration benefits your lawn in two important ways: 1) It breaks through dense thatch and opens up the soil to permit free movement of water and air; 2) By extracting cores from every square foot of your lawn, soil compaction is relieved and gives grass roots room to grow.  The result is a stronger stand of grass which can survive periods of drought and foot traffic.
